Our students at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Bern have elected Prof. Lugli as “Teacher of the Year” for the Master's programme! In an engaging interview in doc.be 4/2024, he shares his vision for the future of pathology as 𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲 and offers fascinating insights into the 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴'𝘀 role in his teaching. We congratulate Dr. Hang Gander-Bui from our Institute of Tissue Medicine and Pathology on the great recognition of her research with the Dr. Lutz and Dr. Celia Zwillenberg Prize 2024! Dr. Gander-Bui identified a novel disease mechanism in invasive fungal infections by which the body's own immune response enables life-threatening fungal sepsis. Her awarded study further demonstrated in a preclinical model that this mechanism can be targeted therapeutically to reduce the disease severity and improve survival. These findings are of great importance for the development of novel treatment approaches against fungal sepsis, which also is a current focus of her work. The prize for young researchers was awarded at this year's Dies Academicus of the University of Bern.
Ana Leni Frei, PhD student, has won the prize for the best poster at the joint SGPath/ÖGPath conference in Feldkirch 2024!
